2023-2024 Jazz Band Auditions

audition pre-requisites
- Students must be entering grades 9-12 at CHS for the 2023-2024 school year
- Students must be able to read music
- All wind students must be enrolled in Varsity Band Class
- Drum set, bass, and guitar are not required to be in the concert band class
- Drum set, bass, and guitar are not required to be in the concert band class
- Schedule must allow you to be in the Jazz Band Honors class
- If you did not choose Jazz Band as an elective, please contact your counselor directly about which class you would like to drop for Jazz Band Honors

Drum Set Audition Requirements
- All 12 major scales
- Swing Etude performed with the back-track
- 12 Bar Blues in Concert F Improvisation over a back track
- Instructions: Let the backtrack play for 12 measures on its own, then perform 12 measures of improvisation

Drum Set Audition Requirements
- All 6 “Drum Set Rhythms” each played for 8 measures
- Swing Etude performed with the provided back-track
- Improvisation over 12 Bar Blues backing track
- Instructions: Set the swing groove for 12 measures, then perform 12 measures of improvisation
